One Ticket Wins $1.3 Billion Powerball

Jay L. Clendenin / Los Angeles Times

There hadn’t been a Powerball winner for three months, but that changed on Sunday. Someone in in the state of Oregon bought a ticket that matched all the numbers of the Powerball and he won over $1.3 billion!

The winning numbers were 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, and Powerball 9. Before this win, nobody had won since New Year’s Day.

The drawing was supposed to happen at 10:59 pm ET, but it got delayed for over three hours. That was because they needed extra time to make sure all the tickets were checked properly.

If the winner chooses to take the money all at once, they’ll get $621 million. Or they could get it over 30 years. This jackpot is the eighth biggest in U.S. history.

People play Powerball in 45 states, plus places like Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
